Kurt Haider, Tobias Steinrück, Roland Hanslmeier The trio, consisting of the refined Graz guitarist Kurt Haider, the sought after bassist Tobias Steinrück and Amadeus prize winner and drummer Roland Hanslmeier impresses with its sophisticated interplay, stylistic openness, and an unwavering feeling for songs. They navigate through their diverse compositions with great playfulness, based on a jazz-influenced approach.(Sound) narratives are created that take the listener to a wide variety of locations. Tonally flexible, thanks to the sounds and effects of the electric guitar, rhythmically and dynamically agile, like hardly any other line-up - the possibilities of the instrumentation are fully explored. The music is greatly influenced by artists such as John Scofield, Bill Frisell Trio, Avishai Cohen and Aaron Parks, all the while being shaped by the band's unique style and approach to the pieces.
The album contains new compositions as well as some well selected standards and originals. Standing out are playful swinging lines, dedicated to the Jazz tradition ('Johnny Parker'); heartwarming riffs, inspired by a child's joy of discovery ('K's Walk'); frenetic hymns á la Metheny ('Changes'); and a melancholic ballad that shows different shades of the blues ('Dark Blue'). The unusual arrangement of the standard 'Darn that dream' reflects the purist approach and the meditative vibe present in the interaction between the three artists.
