The Vanja Toscano & Anna Maurer Duo is dedicated to traditional jazz, reimagining it in a fresh and deeply personal way. Shaped by diverse musical backgrounds and a wide range of genre influences, the two musicians combine sensitivity, a joy for improvisation, and an exceptionally intuitive communication to create a distinctive and individual sound.
They first met in the salsa band “Manteka.” Even then, it was clear that they shared a common musical vision: a deep understanding of musical expression, a natural interplay, and the ability to breathe together in the moment. From this artistic connection grew the desire to create their own project.
After recording a live video at the University of Music and Performing Arts, they decided to capture their collaboration on an album. The repertoire includes compositions by Michel Legrand, Bill Evans, and Miles Davis, among others.
Conceptually, the album follows the image of a life cycle, reflected in the four seasons, from “The Summer Knows” to “You Must Believe in Spring.” The pieces tell stories of departure and maturity, of warmth, transience, and renewal - poetic, intimate, and rich in musical depth.
