.........
Orient and Occident, euphoria and melancholy define the sound of SalonOdjilà. Salon Odjilà presents itself as an irresistible live combo with the
irrepressible joy of playing, with lust for the unusual, combined with a lightfooted
groove. The music effortlessly builds bridges between here and there,
and the musicians are on the move in the melting pot of world music.
Wolfgang and Werner Weissengruber have devoted themselves to jazz for
many years and are multi-instrumentalists. Manuela Kloibmüller is familiar
with the diversity of the accordion from classical to world music and her
singing convinces listeners with emotion and power. The fourth member of
the salon is Matthias Eglseer, who amazes with oblique grooves and is always
on the lookout for unusual rhythmic colors. Wolfgang Weissengruber’s
compositions move elegantly between profound, filigree, and powerfully
grooving. The creative power of the quartet is particularly evident in the
adaptation of traditionals from all over the world and in the love for Astor
Piazzolla and his famous tangos. The musical diversity is bundled in
unmistakable arrangements which, in Salon Odjilà's interpretation, combine
to form a characteristic sonic image.
The special sound of the band is characterized by the mixture of music from
different musical traditions, paired with fresh, contemporary jazz. Sometimes
the band sounds like a tango formation, other times like a Balkan band, and
leaves room for contemporary solos.
Salon Odjilà – the fine song salon – wonderfully groovy and improvised in an
off-kilter way.
